Description

TIBCO's current licensing model uses a binary (.bin) file for activation. This is downloaded from the TIBCO License Portal after your renewal. Applying the new license is a manual process.

Resolution

Step 1: Download Your New .bin License File

  1. Log in to the TIBCO License Portal: www.tibco.com/downloads
  2. Navigate to the Licenses page.
  3. Locate the license associated with your recently renewed product(s). You should see a banner download link indicating the updated file is available.
  4. Download the new license file (e.g., my_new_license.bin).

Step 2: Apply the New License File to Your Product

For TIBCO Activation Service (TAS)

You will upload the new license using tib-activate.

tib-activate login

tib-activate license upload <Newly generated license file>

 For In Product Activation (IPA)

The method for applying for the license depends on your specific TIBCO product.

Type 1: For Messaging (RV, EMS, FTL) - Rename and Replace

These products are typically configured to point to a single, specific license file. The simplest and safest renewal method is to replace this file.

        1. Locate your current, existing license file (e.g  custom name like my_current_license.bin).
        2. Rename the new file you just downloaded (e.g., my_new_license.bin) to match the exact name of your current, existing license file.
        3. Copy the newly renamed file into the correct directory, overwriting the old, expired file.
        4. Restart NOT needed for your product (EMS, RV, or FTL) for the new license to take effect, product should pick up the new license file.

NOTE :  License Update Timelines : For Messaging Products When you upload a new license file following a renewal, the system synchronization time depends on how close you are to your original expiry date (T):

Type 2: For BusinessWorks (BW) - Point to Folder

These products are configured to scan a folder for a valid license.

        1. Place the newly downloaded .bin file in the license folder that BW is configured with (e.g., C:/tibco/license or /opt/tibco/license).
        2. Open your product's configuration file (e.g., bwengine.tra for BW 5.x or bwappnode.tra for BW 6.x).
        3. Ensure the license property points to the folder where you placed the new file.
          1. BW 5.x Example: java.property.license.license_source=C:/tibco/license
          2. BW 6.x Example: java.property.bw.engine.license.source=C:/tibco/license

Issue/Introduction

After renewing your TIBCO entitlements, you must download a new .bin license file from the TIBCO License Portal. The method to apply it depends on your product: for Messaging products (EMS, RV, FTL), you will typically rename and replace the old file. For other products (like BusinessWorks), you will place the new license file in the location where the old license file resides.
