Description

The cause-and-effect diagram provides an efficient summary of factors that impact a process, and hence can be used as a map to guide the overall quality improvement efforts. This is also sometimes referred to as "fishbone chart," because of its appearance, or Ishikawa chart.

Procedure for how the Cause and Effect Node functions in Workspace:

  1. Take an example dataset and select the categorical variables. You can use a dataset from the Examples folder in the Statistica application, located at C:\Program Files\TIBCO\Statistica\Examples\Datasets.  

    Note: The "Select Variables" node is mandatory. Without it, the Cause-Effect node will encounter an error.

  2. Select the Cause and Effect node, which can be found under Statistica → Process Analysis → Cause-Effect (Ishikawa, Fishbone) Diagrams. It will appear as shown below

    3. Execute the Workspace, and the resulting output is shown below:
