Description

When working with TDV published resources in Spotfire, it is important to understand the ports that are needed to establish a successful connection.

Issue/Introduction

This article will explain which TDV ports are used in Spotfire connections.

Environment

Windows

Resolution

The two TDV ports that are required:
  1. 9401- this port needs to be exposed for non-SSL TDV client access
  2. 9403- this port needs to be exposed for SSL TDV client access
Note: The ports mentioned above are required for the connection to TDV when using the JDBC, ODBC & ADO.Net clients.

Generally, port 9401(if the baseport of TDV is 9400) is used to connect to TDV from Spotfire when using either the Information link or Connector method.

However, if there is a requirement for secure communication from the Spotfire client to TDV, then port 9403(baseport of TDV +3) would come into use.

To enable a secure connection from Spotfire to TDV, the following change is required:
I) Using the TDV Connector- The 'Encrypt (SSL)' checkbox needs to be selected to automatically redirect the connection to port 9403.

II) Using Information Links- To the Connection URL of the TDV data source, add the parameter 'encrypt=True'. This will switch all further communications between the two servers to port 9403(secure channel).
