Description

This article explores the potential reasons for long-running idle sessions in TIBCO Data Virtualization.

Issue/Introduction

This article explains the configuration settings that might be contributing to the extended duration of idle sessions in TIBCO Data Virtualization

Resolution

If the user navigates to Studio > Manager > Session, the user can view all open sessions. There is also an End Session button, but some sessions might not be properly terminated.

To investigate idle sessions, the user should inspect settings on three levels. The values for settings at each level impact when the session is released.:

1) Tibco Data Virtualization server-level configuration for all Client Drivers
-> Choose Studio > Administration > Configuration > Server > Client Drivers > Session > Default session timeout and verify the value.

2) Datasource level
-> Open the respective data source, select the 'Advanced' tab, and scroll down to 'Connection Information' to verify the value of the 'Maximum Connection Lifetime' setting

3) Java Database Connectivity/Open Database Connectivity (JDBC/ODBC) client connection level
-> The user should review the connection URL string for any 'sessionTimeout' or similar attributes associated with the database that might keep the session idle for a long time. These timeout attributes will only take effect if the configuration setting (Studio > Administration > Configuration > Server > Client Drivers > Session > Ignore Client Drivers Session Timeout) is set to false.
