Description

Do any of the following Spotfire services listen on a URL that can be provided to the Spotfire Analyst client for use while working offline?

- TERR Service (TERRSRV) (Spotfire Enterprise Runtime for R - Server Edition)
- Python Service (PYSRV) (Spotfire Service for Python)
- R Service (RSRV) (Spotfire Service for R)

Issue/Introduction

This article confirms that the Spotfire Analyst desktop client can only access the TERR Service, R Service and Python Service while logged into Spotfire Server, because none of those services listen on URLs.

Environment

All supported operating systems

Resolution

No. Unlike the old TIBCO Spotfire Statistics Services (TSSS) installable server product, the TERR Service (TERRSRV), Python Service (PYSRV) and R Service (RSRV) do not listen on URLs.

When the Spotfire distributions (*.sdn files) for these new services have been deployed, they are part of the Spotfire Server environment, and they always use that environment to communicate with the Spotfire clients (Analyst, Web Player, Automation Services).

Specifically:

(1) When a Spotfire Analyst desktop client has logged into a Spotfire Server environment that includes a running TERR Service instance, it has access to that TERR Service.

When it has not logged in, it does not have access.

(2) Spotfire Web Player and Spotfire Automation Services only have access to the TERR Service when they are part of a Spotfire Server environment that includes a running TERR Service.

Both sets of conditions also apply for access to the R Service and the Python Service.
