Description

Does Statistica install/run on Macintosh OS, like OS X or with the Linux operating system?

Issue/Introduction

This article explains how to install Statistica on a Mac (Macintosh) or with Linux.

Environment

Not compatible with Mac or Linux operating systems. Statistica will run only on Windows operating systems.

Resolution

No. Statistica is not supported on a Mac or Linux Operating System. As of this time of this knowledge base article publication, there are no plans to create a version that will install on a MacOS or any Linux version.

Note:
If you are running a Windows virtual machine on either of these operating systems (ex: via dual boot or parallels), then the following information can be useful.  TIBCO does not support issues with 3rd party application such as Apple Boot Camp, VMware Fusion, Parallels, etc.

Dual Booting

It is possible with current Mac hardware to run Windows directly on the machine. Using a product such as Apple Boot Camp (https://support.apple.com/boot-camp),  the user can boot their Mac using either the Mac OS or a Windows OS.  It would then be possible to install and run Statistica on the Windows version of such a dual-boot system.

Virtual Machines

Thanks to advances in hardware and software, Statistica can run on a Windows OS inside of a virtual machine on a Mac or Linux computer. Some examples of virtualization software for the Mac include VMware Fusion (https://www.vmware.com/products/fusion.html) and Parallels  (https://www.parallels.com/).

Virtual software creates a protected space and manages the real-time hardware resources to essentially create another machine, a computer inside another computer. A virtual machine uses hardware resources of the host machine, i.e. CPU and RAM. Therefore, before planning to use virtualization software, you may need to upgrade your hardware to support the additional load. To use a virtual machine on a Mac OS, you have to first install the virtualization software. The Statistica application requirements vary by version. Please see https://docs.tibco.com/products/tibco-statistica-14-0-0 and select the supported version you will be installing.

To use Statistica on a Mac or Linux computer via virtualization follow these steps:
1. Check to make sure the host computer has the required amount of CPU speed, RAM, etc. For Parallels check the System Requirements Parallels support.  Since hardware resources are shared the minimum requires must be met for a virtual machine to work.
2. If the host computer meets the System Requirements, first install the virtualization software.
3. After the virtualization software is installed, the OS that will run inside the virtual machine must be installed. This should be a licensed copy of Windows (10, 11).
4.  Install Statistica inside the virtual machine.  Check to make sure the the minimum requirements for Statistica are met by checking the System Requirements in the installation instructions here  https://docs.tibco.com/pub/stat/14.0.1/doc/pdf/TIB_stat_14.0.1_installation.pdf?id=0.  Select the version of Statistica to install in the top right corner:

Windows Emulators and WINE

Statistica is not supported on WINE (https://www.winehq.org/).
