How to download and use Process Explorer

Issue/Introduction

This article provides the steps to download Process Explorer and the steps to generate a mini-dump. This can be used to troubleshoot when Statistica is crashing.

Environment

OS: Windows

Resolution

1.  Download Process Explorer. The link is  https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/downloads/process-explorer

2.  Unzip the zip file to a directory on your computer. A directory named c:\bin can be created for useful programs/utilities that do not have Windows installers.

3.  After unzipping, navigate in Explorer to the location and double-click on ProcExp.exe.  (or right-click and select "Run as administrator...")

4.  Launch Statistica if it is not running or launch Statistica Enterprise Manager, depending on which application is crashing

5.  Locate Statistica (or Statistica Enterprise Manager)  in the Process Tree of Process Explorer. You can change the tree view to a sorted list view by clicking on the “Process” column. The Statistica process name is “statist.exe” and the Statistica Enterprise Manager name is "staemapp.exe":
Process Monitor

6.  Perform the action that leads to Statistica hanging or crashing

7.  Right-click on statist.exe (or staemapp.exe) to bring up the context menu, and select to create a Mini Dump:
Minidump

8.  When prompted to save the mini dump, save it with the suggested name or provide your own:
Minidump

9.  Right-click on the .dmp file and select "Send to... Compress (zipped) folder" to create a zipped file.

10.  Attach the zipped file to the case in the support portal ( https://support.tibco.com)
