Description

When creating an Information Link in the TIBCO Spotfire Information Designer, you may not be able to add a column from the data source tables. After selecting the column on the left, the "Add" option will be grayed out as shown below:

This is because before adding a column to create an information link, the columns must first be created as column elements in the TIBCO Spotfire library, and then the column elements are what are added to the information link (not the columns from directly within the data source).

Issue/Introduction

This article explains why you may not be able to add columns from a data source table while creating an Information Link in the TIBCO Spotfire Information Designer

Resolution

To start, see the General Workflow documentation to understand how to create information links.

First, you need to create the column elements in the TIBCO Spotfire library according to the  Create Column Elements documentation.

Then you can create the information link according to the  Create Information link documentation. Here you can now add the newly created column elements (not the columns from directly within the data source) to your information link.

Tip: If your data source contains well-ordered data you can right-click on the data source and select Create Default Information Model... in order to quickly set up a simple information model.
