If you suspect that you may be dealing with a firewall issue, below are the steps to troubleshoot using a Network Tester:
Environment
Windows
Resolution
The Network Tester is a simple tool that can help establish if there is connectivity between your OpenSpirit Master Installation and the PC trying to connect to the Master Installation.
Do the following to run the Network Tester:
Launch the Network Tester utility located in the $OSP_HOME/bin/etc/networktest.sh (Linux), and %OSP_HOME%\bin\etc\networktest.bat (Windows). You must launch the tool on the PC you have the problem with, and on the machine, you are running your Master Installation on. In this example, the Master Installation is on Linux.
When you launch the utility a GUI, like the one below, will pop up with a Port and an IP address. Note that this is NOT the Shared Services Port number or Flexlm license port.
Fill in each interface with the information (Port/IP address) of the opposing machine.
Click on the “Test” button in each interface, both should say “Test was successful”. If they do not, then you must have a firewall between the two machines. In most cases (not all) the firewall will be on the PC.
If you must have the Microsoft Windows Firewall turned on, then you can execute the %OSP_HOME%\bin\etc\OSPExemptions.bat script (on the PC) to add the OpenSpirit exemptions in your firewall. You MUST run this script with administrator privileges. If you are using a different vendor's firewall product you will need to refer to the documentation to see how to exempt specific executables.
If the firewall issues persist, then more troubleshooting will have to be done. First check with your system/network administrator to find out if there isn’t a corporate firewall installed, or router preventing the flow of traffic between both computers. Your administrator will have to investigate that. You can also export the firewall inbound rules, and check to see that you do not have rules nullifying, or conflicting with another.
