This article shows an example of making a line graph with a time variable on the x axis in the workspace mode. In this example, there are two numeric variables ("STOCK1", "STOCK2") and a date formated variable ("Date"). In this line graph, two types of stock value will be plotted across time to visualize stock fluctuation over time.
1. Under "File | Open Examples", open Stocks.sta spreadsheet from the "Datasets" folder.
2. When the dataset is open, click "Home | Add to Workspace" (under Output group)|"Add to New Workspace" to insert the Stocks data into the workspace.
3. When the data is inserted, click "Graphs | 2D | Line Plots(Variables)..." to drop the node into the workspace.
4. Connect the Stocks input data node and the "2D Line Plots(Variables)" node by holding the left click of the mouse to draw a line from the data node to the later one.
5. Click the top left wheel icon of the "2D Line Plots(Variables)" node to edit parameters in the prompted dialog.
6. Click "Quick | Variables" to select both "STOCK1" and "STOCK2" variables.
7. Click Appearance to select "Multiple" as the Graph type.
8. Under "Options 1 | Display options", select "Variables" as Case labels and click "Variable" to select "Date".
9. After accomplishing all configurations in previous steps, click "OK" in the "2D Line Plots(Variables)" dialog to return to the workspace.
10. Click the bottom left green arrow icon of the "2D Line Plots(Variables)" node to run this node.
11. When the node is finished with running the task, click the generated "Reporting Document Node" to review the final graph.
