This article gives an example of how to perform run rules test and highlight samples that violate run rules on the quality control charts. This example applies to SPC Charts with alarming node and Control charts with alarming node.

1. The example data has two variables including "Measures" and "Measures_Center". Click Home|Add to Workspace to insert the data into a workspace.

2. Double click the input data node to define "Measures" as the dependent variable.

3. In the "Feature Finder" box On top right of Statistica UI, enter "SPC" to find and insert "SPC Charts with alarming node" into the workspace.

4. Double click the node to configure the analysis, click General Tab and  select Use defined cont.dependent for Characteristic selection.

5. Under X Chart Center/Sigma tab, and select Use defined Centerline for Centerline type.

6. Under Run Rules, select "Check Runs Rules" and select "Perform test on overlapping ranges".

7. Under Run Rules Types 1, Select On the same side of centerline (Zone C or beyond), deselect all other options. Keep the default value 9 on the same side of centerline.

Note: This step defines the run rule as : when 9 or more consecutive points are on the same side of center line, the run rule is violated.

8. Under Run Rules Types 2, deselect all the options.

9. Run the node and check the X chart in the result document, two series of samples violating the Run rules Type 1 are highlighted in red: the first 11 consecutive points and the second 13 consecutive points.

Note: In order to highlight all samples that violate the run rule, which is defined at step 7 in this case, "Perform test on overlapping ranges" under Run Rules tab must be selected (see step 6). Otherwise, only the first 9 consecutive samples will be highlighted.
