When manually applying a Statistica license file, stat.lic, the file extensions are hidden which can cause problems with renaming files correctly.  Also, some troubleshooting steps cannot be completed because some file extensions are hidden and some system file locations are hidden.  
 

SHOW FILE EXTENSIONS

Windows 7  (Note:  With Windows 8, 8.1, and Windows 10, key in the word 'Folder' on the Start screen and select 'Folder Options', then proceed to Step 2 below)  

1.  Click on Start | Control Panel | Appearance and Personalization | Folder Options to open Folder Options

2.  Select the View tab at the top, and click the box to the left of 'Hide extensions for known file types' under Advanced Settings to un-check the box:

3.  Click the OK button at the bottom

HOW TO SHOW SYSTEM FILE LOCATIONS

1.  Use the same steps above to locate Folder Options,  Advanced Settings

2.  Under 'Hidden files and folders', select 'Show hidden files, folders, and drives' and un-check 'Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)' :
