Description

This article explains the MFA (multi-factor authentication) support added in the TIBCO Scribe Online  Connector for Dynamics 365 / CRM connector Version 1.8.1, released October 4, 2019. See the release notes for more details about this release.

Note:   Existing Azure AD connections will continue to work using the prior authentication method until you modify the Connection and reauthenticate.

Introduction

Q: What is multi-factor authentication (MFA)?

A: MFA is an enhancement to the username/password credentials combination to identify you and to let the system know that you are who you claim to be.

Q: Why is MFA authentication needed?

A: MFA adds an extra layer of security, making it harder to impersonate someone by simply guessing their username/password combination. MFA requires an extra temporary access key sent to the account owner’s private mobile phone or private email address at login time.

Q: How do I setup a D365 CRM connection in TIBCO Scribe Online without MFA enabled?

A: To connect to D365 CRM using a D365 CRM account (without MFA enabled) we have multiple options or “deployment modes”. Using username and password you can connect to online, on-premise, or Partner-Hosted (IFD) deployments, or authenticate using Azure AD.

More info can be found on the Connector Help page under the “Connecting To Microsoft Dynamics 365” section.

Q: How do I setup a D365 CRM connection in TIBCO Scribe Online with MFA enabled?

A: To connect to D365 CRM using TIBCO Scribe Online with MFA enabled we currently have one option: configure a connection that authenticates to “Azure AD”.

More information can be found on the D365 CRM Connector Help page under the “Azure AD Authentication” section

Q: Does this information apply to Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations?

A: No. This information only applies to Dynamics 365 CRM.
