Description

Monitoring and Alerting Server (MAS) is a component of Statistica Enterprise that enables you to schedule multiple Analysis Configurations to be run automatically. MAS will also check for alarm conditions and then take action in response to those alarms.

In MAS, it is important to distinguish between two different activities:

•    Scheduling a task to be run by MAS

•    Running a task on demand and displaying the output

Issue/Introduction

This article explains the difference between two important activities in MAS.

Resolution

1. Scheduling a Task to be run by MAS :

The user can schedule a Task by specifying a schedule in the properties page of the Schedule node of the Taskset, as shown in the following illustration.

Or the user can manually schedule a task to be run by MAS on demand by clicking on the cog wheel icon in the lower-right corner of the colored square associated with that task.

Note: Either scheduling a taskset to be run under MAS or manually scheduling it to be run by MAS immediately like the steps shown above, triggers the analysis/task to be run as MAS Service rather than by the thick client. This is also a good way to test if the MAS service is running properly. If there is anything wrong with MAS service, it is recommended to check windows event log and MAS logs.

If there are any alarms, the box that corresponds to that task will become red on the Dashboard.

2. Running a Task manually and displaying the output:

The user can run a task and display the output by double-clicking on the arrow icon in the lower-left corner of the colored square associated with that task.

This will open Statistica and display the chart run by that task.

Note that this activity is usually performed after the alarm has been raised by MAS and it is usually to drill down on the analysis/data that caused the alarm.
