Description

Issue:  Windows security updates were applied to the TIBCO Scribe Insight server.  Now, when opening a DTS package and trying to reconnect, the ODBC data source to be reconnected is marked in red.   The following error displays:

Unexpected error from external database driver

Windows update applied:  Windows security Update for Microsoft windows (KB4041690) on Windows Server 2012

Resolution:
There are 2 options:

  1. Uninstall Windows update KB4041690
    or
  1. Follow workaround recommendation published by Microsoft
Download and install the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable, and then modify the DB connection strings in Microsoft Excel to use ACE as a provider. Example: Change Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 to Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0.
