Call Inspector is a tool that allows debugging of API calls as they flow through Mashery Traffic Manager. This tool can be used to respond faster to problems reported by the API users by being able to narrow down issues with their API calls. The tool can also be used to gain insight into historical transactions for audit ability.

The following user roles can access the Call Inspector tab:

  1. Administrator
  2. Call Inspector Administrator
  3. Call Inspector User

Following are the access restrictions for the various user roles:

  • The users with Call Inspector Administrator role are restricted to the Call Inspector tab. They cannot perform other administrative functions but can view the Call Inspector tab and its sub-tabs.
  • The users with Call inspector User role have access only to the "Viewer" sub-tab under Call Inspector. They cannot enable call capture as they do not have access to “Log Settings” sub-tab.

To enable Call Inspector the below steps can be followed on Mashery Dashboard.

       1. Open Mashery dashboard and under the tab “Analyze” select "Call Inspector".

The Call Inspector takes 10 minutes to start logging the calls after being enabled. This is the reason why calls made immediately after enabling Call Inspector are not captured. Notification Portal can be used for configuring notifications when the call capture is enabled or disabled. The logs can be viewed under the "Viewer" tab. The level of visibility also allows the user to drill down and narrow down the problem area.

The Call Inspector also provides the details for Inbound Requests and Outbound Requests shown in the “Viewer” tab. The Inbound Requests tab displays the original request and the processed version of the request.

Similarly the Outbound Responses tab shows the original response from the API server and the details of the call sent to the client application.
