Description

The iProcess Engine has been upgraded from 11.3.1 to 11.3.1.28. The iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client does not work since the upgrade. The error generated is:
“Unable to establish a connection to the Action Processor”.

Issue/Introduction

The TIBCO iProcess Engine has been upgraded from 11.3.1 to 11.3.1.28. The TIBCO iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client does not work since the upgrade. Error generated is “Unable to establish a connection to the Action Processor”

Environment

TIBCO iProcess Engine 11.3.1.28 Oracle Solaris (SPARC) TIBCO iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client 11.4.0 Tomcat Solaris (SPARC)

Resolution

The iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client was installed in the Tomcat shipped with the iProcess Engine (under SWDIR/tomcat). The iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client uses the iProcess Server Objects (iPSO) to connect to the iProcess SPO Server. Post installation actions for the iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client include the following.

1). Copy the iPSO library and client JAR files to TOMCAT_HOME/lib
2).  Update the TOMCAT_HOME/bin/catalina.sh file with the java.library.path option to reference TOMCAT_HOME/lib

In this case, TOMCAT_HOME is SWDIR/tomcat

The iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client was working prior the iProcess Engine hotfix. The iProcess Engine 11.3.1 Hot Fix 28 is a full distribution set. The hotfix overwrote the contents of SWDIR/tomcat/bin SWDIR/tomcat/lib

As a result, the iPSO client library and JAR files were missing and the Action Processor could not start. The resolution is to perform the above post installation steps for the iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client. In this case, the missing files were retrieved from the backup taken prior to the upgrade. The catalina.sh file was updated to reference the location of the iPSO library and JAR files.

The issue occurred as the iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client is installed in Tomcat under SWDIR. The issue would not have occurred if the iProcess Workspace (Browser) Client was installed in a Tomcat instance that was separate from the iProcess Engine directory.
