[This KA was unapproved and obsolete when migrated.] We are installing the 3.x R/3 adapter on a Unix system. What kind of Repository instance do we need to setup before installing the various components of the R/3 adapter?

Resolution:
You will install the main adapter package on the Unix system. However, since the Configurator GUI is only available on NT currently, you will need to install the ConfigGUI and MetaDataAdapter on an NT system. As these different components of the R/3 adapter need to refer to the same Repository instance, we recommend that you setup a remote repository instance.
Roughly the steps are (assuming you have RV & Repository installed on your Unix, RV installed on your NT and your Unix & NT systems are either on the same sunbnet or connected via rvrds):
1. Run the Repository Server on your Unix system
2. Run the Repository Manager and create a remote repository instance.
3. Exit Repository Manager.
4. Install the SAPAdapter package on your Unix system
5. Install the SAPAdapter package on your NT system
6. Run the utility "initstartup" on your NT system and specify the remote repository instance you created on the Unix system when prompted.
