Description:

Unable to uninstall TIBCO BusinessEvents when both BE 4.x and 5.x exist under the same TIBCO HOME.

Environment:

Operating Systems Windows
TIBCO BusinessEvents 4.x / 5.x release

Symptoms:
=========
When trying to uninstall BE through All Programs -> TIBCO -> uninstall, uninstall links doesn't work. Most of the uninstall links under All Programs -> TIBCO are broken/dead.

Cause:
=====
The following are the reasons you would see this error:

1). Installing BE 4.0 and 5.0 under the same TIBCO_HOME.

2). BE 5.0 using a higher version of TIBCO UniversalInstaller than BE 4.x(and other TIBCO products using same version of UniversalInstaller as BE 4.x. Example:TRA 5.7.x).

3). BE 5.0 removes the uninstallers from _uninstall folder under TIBCO_HOME, created/used by BE 4.0.

4). BE 5.0 installation does not automatically remove the uninstall links(All Programs -> TIBCO) created by other TIBCO products(TRA,BE, etc).

5). BE 5.0 installer does not know about old products(using older version of UniversalInstaller) at the time of installation.

Resolution:
==========
Installing TIBCO products which use 2.9 (like BE 4.x or TRA 5.7.2) and newer UniversalInstaller(2.9.3) under the same TIBCO HOME; uninstallation should always be performed using the maintenance mode of the installer, which is located under $TIBCO_HOME/tools directory.
