Description

Resolution:
One of the most common problems after installing a Manager is that of Drivers or Engines not connecting to the Director or Broker. Nearly all of the time this is due to DNS issues. Correct DNS configuration is essential in GridServer installations. Ideally, all components (Drivers, Servers and Engines) should be able to obtain each others' IP addresses via DNS. This eases the process of future upgrades and in general makes Manager maintenance easier, since the Manager is not tied to a static IP address.

When this is not possible, it's preferable to use hostname aliases rather than hard-coded IP addresses in GridServer components. This can be achieved in Unix by editing the etc/hosts file, and in Windows by editing the Win32/etc/lmhosts file. Also, when installing on a Linux system, the fully-qualified domain name or IP address must be used.
