Resolution:
The Rendezvous 8.4.2 daemon is compatible with earlier releases of RV 8.x.x clients.
If you need to run an RV 8.4.2 daemon and/or releases of RV 8.x.x clients on the same box, you can upgrade just the daemons from 8.4.2 and continue to use the client JARs from an earlier RV 8.x release if the clients cannot be upgraded to Java 7.

Steps to upgrade:
1). If you have an old version of RV installed on one machine (Machine_1), first install RV 8.4.2 on another machine (Machine_2). After that, find the daemons and the associated libraries from the <rv root>/bin, <rv root>/lib, and the <rv root>/lib/64 directories listed below:
On Windows, all required files are under <rv root>\bin:
rvd.exe
rvrd.exe
rvsd.exe
rvsrd.exe
libeay32.dll
ssleay32.dll
On Unix, daemon executable files can be found under <rv root>/bin. 32-bit libraries are under <rv root>/lib. 64-bit libraries are under <rv root>/lib/64. The files under <rv root>/bin are:
rvd
rvd64
rvrd
rvrd64
rvsd
rvsd64
rvsrd
rvsrd64
The libraries under <rv root>/lib are :
libssl.so.0.9.8
libcrypto.so.0.9.8
The libraries under <rv root>/lib/64 are:
libssl.so.0.9.8
libcrypto.so.0.9.8
2). Go to Machine_1 where the old version of RV is located and go to the folders mentioned in Step 1 and make a backup of the files mentioned in Step 1.
3). Copy the above files from RV 8.4.2 on Machine_2 to the folders (Step 1) from old versions of RV on Machine_1.
4). Stop the RV daemon. Be aware that stopping the RV daemon may cause dataloss. It is suggested that you stop the applications first or stop the daemon when there is no or little traffic. (If unsure about this step, contact TIBCO Support).
5). Restart the RV daemon.
After restrating, when starting the RV daemons manually or automatically on the machine where the older version of RV is installed, the running RV daemons will be 8.4.2. If you start the RV client on the local machine, these RV clients will be the older version of the RV clients. Note that the "older version RV" mentioned above means the RV versions which are older than RV 8.4.2.
