There is no hardcoded limit on the number of file based store files which can be used for message storage.

It is hard to state if it is reasonable to have one store file per destination or to define any limits without conducting tests in a specific environment. Many factors may affect performance such as disk speed, message size/rate, availability of system resources, etc.
Using multiple datastore files may improve EMS server performance in some situations. For more details refer to Solution SOL1-ANXDX0
