Description:

We have an issue with TIBCO Runtime Agent(TM) 5.8.0 Installer on the Linux environment and observing different behavior compared to Windows.

Case 1:

On Windows 7  Environment:
==========================
1). Install TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0.
2) .Install TIBCO Runtime Agent(TM) 5.8.0 , Installation completes  and TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0 entries are present in  VPD file..


Case 2:

On Linux Environment:
=====================
1). Install TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0.
2)  Install TIBCO Runtime Agent(TM) 5.8.0. Installation completes but TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0 entries are not added to the VPD file.
3). If running TIBCOInstallerUtil (located under <TIBCO_HOME>\tra\5.8\lib\install ) to export the TIBCO Product list installed under TIBCO_HOME then RV 8.4.0 can be seen to be present .

4).TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0 is present in the Installed Software list but TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0 entries are not present in the VPD file.


Impact:
=======
Older product dependent on vpd file will fail to find entries of TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0 in vpd file.  For example, TIBCO Business Connect customer installing the BCRN product, which is still dependent on vpd files, will run into installation issues due to TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0 missing in the vpd file.

Operating System: Unix/Linux.


Resolution:
===========
This is a known Issue with the TIBCO Runtime Agent(TM) 5.8.0  Linux UniversalInstaller. It happens only on Unix/ Linux platforms and  when the install sequence listed below. JIRA:INST-724  fixes this defect.

Install Sequence:
1). Install standalone TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0.
2). Install TIBCO Runtime Agent(TM) 5.8.0.



Workaround 1:
-----------------
1). Download TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0 and place in a temp folder.

2). Download TIBCO Runtime Agent(TM) 5.8.0 into the same temp folder.

3). Launch the installer and install RV 8.4.0 and TIBCO Runtime Agent(TM) 5.8.0 in one install session.

Workaround 2:
-----------------
This problem has been fixed in UniversalInstaller 3.2.0.

1). Download the latest version of UniversalInstaller 3.2.0 V7 from  the TIBCO Support FTP server .
    ftp://support-ftp.tibco.com/UniversalInstaller/TIBCOUniversalInstaller/3.2.0/TIBCOUniversalInstaller_320v7 .

2). Install standalone TIBCO Rendezvous(R) 8.4.0 .

3). Use UniversalInstaller 3.2.0 V7 and install TIBCO Runtime Agent(TM) 5.8.0 .
