TIBCO Adapters can with interoperate with ActiveMatrix (AMX) 2.x components in the following ways:
- Standalone adapters running outside of ActiveMatrix using ActiveEnterprise messages:
- ActiveMatrix Adapter Service Engines using AMX bindings or ActiveEnterprise messages:
- Adapter plug-in components running in TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks Service Engine (BWSE)




Standalone adapters running outside of ActiveMatrix:

The standalone adapter (classic mode) runs outside of the ActiveMatrix environment and does not support AMX bindings.  The standalone adapter can send or receive ActiveEnterprise (AE) messages over RV or EMS. Therefore, the standalone adapter can exchange AE messages with AMX components that support AE messages. (e.g. BWSE or the Adapter Binding Type).

The Adapter Binding Type component of ActiveMatrix Service Grid provides a bridge between ActiveMatrix components (e.g. BWSE, C++ Implementation Type, etc.) and standalone adapters running outside of ActiveMatrix.

ActiveMatrix Adapter Service Engines (ASE) are components of the ActiveMatrix Adapters that allow the adapters to run as ActiveMatrix containers, and support AMX bindings or ActiveEnterprise messages as described below.

AMX bindings can be used between the ASE and other ActiveMatrix components (e.g. BWSE, C++ Implementation Type, etc.).  A configuration entry is present for these Adapters in the AMSB Service Composite design-time palette. An Adapter Service Engine Component is configured by picking an Adapter Type from the configuration palette and dropping it into the Composite canvas, then choosing service operations from Adapter WSDL (and endpoints file) to create Service bindings (Adapter Service Engine) other components can bind their references to.

Alternately, TIBCO Designer projects that are imported for runtime only through the EAR2SA tool continue to use AE messages between BWSE and ASE.  For more information, please refer to the BWSE 5.7.x or BWSE 5.8.x Release Notes - Appendix A Configuring Adapter Projects in ActiveMatrix Design-time.

TIBCO Adapter for SWIFT 5.7 includes several components, including TIBCO ActiveMatrix BusinessWorks Plugin for SWIFTNet – FIN. This component is supported on BWSE as well as BW Standalone.
