What is TIBCO® BPM Enterprise?

TIBCO® BPM Enterprise is the next-gen version of TIBCO ActiveMatrix® BPM product focused on Digital Process Automation. It provides a low-code, model-driven environment for rapid development of process and case management applications. Starting with 5.0.0 release it provides a cloud-native runtime to deploy and manage these applications in your choice of Kubernetes-based private, public or hybrid cloud environment at scale.

Is TIBCO® BPM Enterprise a new product?

No. TIBCO ActiveMatrix® BPM has been renamed as TIBCO® BPM Enterprise with the release of 5.0.0 version.

What’s new in TIBCO BPM Enterprise 5?

Below are key updates in the TIBCO BPM Enterprise 5.0.0 release:

• Ability to run full BPM runtime system in a container with support for any CNCF certified Kubernetes for managing the containers

• No dependency on the TIBCO ActiveMatrix Platform

• A single unified client UI for end users to perform administration, process and case management operations

• New Open RESTful APIs with an API Explorer view for accessing Open API Spec/Swagger based documentation

• Automated build support in TIBCO Business Studio - BPM Edition using Docker

Are existing TIBCO ActiveMatrix BPM customers entitled to use TIBCO BPM Enterprise 5.x versions?

Yes, existing TIBCO ActiveMatrix® BPM customers under active maintenance are entitled to use 5.x versions.

Is there a plan to end support for the 4.x version in the near future?

No. Existing customers using the ActiveMatrix Platform based versions can continue to run their existing on-premises deployments on the latest 4.x version. We strongly recommend to upgrade to the latest 4.x version for long term support.  

What are the changes in functionality in TIBCO BPM Enterprise 5.x?

TIBCO BPM Enterprise 5.x is designed for cloud-native deployments in a private, hybrid or multi-cloud environment using containers. In order to provide a scalable, container-based runtime with faster startup as well as to simplify the overall deployment and operations on cloud platforms, TIBCO BPM Enterprise 5.x does not include the ActiveMatrix Platform. This also means that some of the legacy features provided by the ActiveMatrix Platform are no longer available in TIBCO BPM Enterprise 5.x. Please refer to product documentation for more information.

What are the recommendations for existing pre-version 5.x users?

As mentioned above existing users of the ActiveMatrix Platform based versions can continue to run their existing on-premises deployments on the latest 4.x version and adopt version 5.x for new development. Moving from version 4.x to 5.x is not merely an upgrade. While version 5.x offers a number of benefits including scalable, cloud-native deployments, ease of use and Open APIs, it is recommended to align the migration from 4.x to 5.x with your business and IT strategy.
