Peer indicated failure: GSS Initiate Failed
Issue/Introduction
How to solve "Peer indicated failure: GSS initiate failed" when using Kerberos Authentication in TDV Server, Kerberos Configuration File ?
Resolution
This error is a generic Kerberos error indicating that there is a problem validate the request for a service ticket.
Usually this means there is an issue with the Kerberos configuration file, this can range from bad configuration to the file or the file not being present at all.
The default location for this files are:
Windows:
The location of the krb5.ini file varies with Windows version.
For example: it can be C:\Winnt\krb5.ini, C:\Windows\krb5.ini, and so on.
Linux:
/etc/krb5.conf
UNIX-based:
/etc/krb5/krb5.conf
Open the file and review the configuration syntax and parameters, after confirming the configuration, restart the TDV Server and attempt to connect to you data source once more.
If this TDV Server instance is a fresh one and the data source is being imported from a Full Server Backup, please keep in mind that the Kerberos file will not be exported in to the .CAR file, you will have to manually copy the Kerberos configuration file and set TDV Server's Kerberos configuration file path manually in the Configuration screen ( Administration - Configuration), search for Kerberos Configuration File and add the file's path in the value field, apply changes and restart the TDV Server.
