Description

Power BI is the most user-friendly ODBC Client tool for viewing the records that are published as a database in TIBCO Data Virtualization under Composite Data Services. Users occasionally utilize ODBC Driver to fetch the records.

Issue/Introduction

This article provides a guide on establishing a connection to an ODBC Datasource using Power BI and allows users to access and view the resources that have been published through TIBCO Data Virtualization.

Environment

Windows Operating System

Resolution

Pre-requisites for connecting ODBC and Power BI are mentioned below:
- Download and install the latest version of Power BI and Sign in using the credential.
- Download and install the ODBC Driver(any version) that the user wants to use as a Data Source.

The steps to connect our ODBC Data source to Power BI are as follows:
1) The user has to create a view in TIBCO Data Virtualization and need to publish it as a Database under Composite Data Services.

2) Open ODBC Data Source(32-bit or 64-bit) and click on System DSN tab >> click on Add >> add the ODBC Driver that needs to be used as a Datasource.

4) Make sure the ODBC and Power BI should be on the same machine.

5) Once the connection of ODBC DSN is successful, open the Power BI application that had been installed in the machine.

6) Click on Get Data >> More

7) One can get the full list of Data sources that can be connected using Power BI, Search for ODBC in the search box which is in the left panel, and click on connect.
