Spotfire Statistica | 8.0 through 13.1 |
Important Note: Beginning with Statistica 13.1, only one host id, or MAC address, need to be enabled during the install. With V13.1, the UUID (or STATID) is used in the license file. See How to find the UUID (also known as the STATID) for Statistica licensing.
Single-user Desktop Installs
Statistica uses the MAC address, or addresses, associated with enable network adapters, both physical and virtual adapters. MAC addresses are 12 hexadecimal characters length (values of 0 through 9 and A through F). In Statistica licensing, MAC addresses are called "host ids." There isn't a logical limit to the number of host ids or MAC addresses that a license file can contain. Eight MAC addresses in a license file have been encountered.
Most laptops, and some desktops, have multiple MAC addresses as they have several network adapters, both physical and virtual. Multiple MAC address, or host ids, can affect Statistica licensing and registration.
The Statistica installer will detect and use all enabled host ids in the license file. This can be problematic for desktop or single-user installs if the adapter that has the host id(s) is/are disabled. Statistica will fail to launch and throw a license error if the host id in the license file is not associated with an enabled adapter
One scenario, is when a laptop is connected to a docking station where the docking station host id is enabled but other adapter host ids are disabled. Statistica will fail to launch and throw a licensing error as the host id listed in the license file does not have an adapter enabled with the associated host id.
Another scenario, is with a laptop that was initially connected via Ethernet cable during the install of Statistica. After the install, only the wireless adapter is enabled. Statistica will fail to launch and throw a licensing error:
If the installation of Statistica and registration was done with only one of the two network cards enabled then the license only contains one host id. If at some point after installation/registration, the second network card is enabled the system now has two host ids.
For desktop installs, it is best to enable all network adapters, if possible. For network installs, those with concurrent licensing, only one network adapter is usually only preset and only one is used in both the 14 day temporary license file and the full registered license file (this does not apply to DBR, trials, or most academic installs).
If the first network card is switched off and the system now only has network card 2 enabled then Statistica may fail to load because the license file will have only one host id and it will not be the host id of the network card that is now enabled on the computer.
The installer prompts to enable all network cards before registration takes place (for Statistica 12.6 and below). If all of the cards are enabled during registration, then all of the potential host ids will all be represented in the license file and Statistica will work if any one card is enabled or any combination of the cards is enabled.
