This article explains scenarios when the Automation Services Job Builder is not present under the Tools menu in the TIBCO Spotfire Analyst client and how to enable it.

Issue/Introduction

This article explains how to have Automation Services Job Builder under Tools menu enabled in the TIBCO Spotfire Analyst client

Resolution

The Automation Services Job Builder under Tools menu may not be present for the following two reasons:

1) The "Automation Services Builder Tool" license under "TIBCO Spotfire Extensions" is not enabled in the Administration Manager. 
This can be found in the TIBCO Spotfire Analyst client > Tools > Administration Manager > Groups and Licenses > Select the preferred group > Licenses > Edit > Check "Automation Services Job Builder Tool" option as shown below:

Ensure that license is enabled for the needed groups, then log in again with the TIBCO Spotfire Analyst client and the Automation Services Job Builder should be available now under the Tools menu.

2) The "Automation Services Builder Tool" license is not present under "TIBCO Spotfire Extensions" in the Administration Manager due to missing Automation Services packages
If the "Automation Services Job Builder Tool" license is not present under "TIBCO Spotfire Extensions" in Tools > Administration Manager > Groups and Licenses, then that means the Automation Services packages are not currently deployed in the machine running the TIBCO Spotfire Analyst client.

This can be verified by navigating to Help > Support Diagnostics and Logging > Product File Information > Copy Info, then paste into a text editor. The following dlls should be present if packages are installed properly:
  • Spotfire.Dxp.Automation.Framework.dll
  • Spotfire.Dxp.Automation.JobBuilder.dll
  • Spotfire.Dxp.Automation.Tasks.dll
  • Spotfire.Dxp.Automation.Tasks.Views.dll
The Automation Services packages are not included in the main TIBCO Spotfire Analyst installer, but they are included in the core client deployment kits. So if the client has not "upgraded" after installation by connecting to a TIBCO Spotfire Server then those will not be present. In that case, to update the client to include the Automation Services packages, launch TIBCO Spotfire Analyst client, connect to a TIBCO Spotfire Server, and the update dialog will pop up with the option to "Update Now" (this will appear if the modules on machine running TIBCO Spotfire Analyst are not matching or not present as compared to those in the deployment area on the TIBCO Spotfire Server).

Click on "View Updates" link and it shows the following packages for Automation Services which are not present on machine running TIBCO Spotfire Analyst client. This is generally the case if you have never updated the TIBCO Spotfire installed client, or are using a portable client which does not contain the Automation Services modules by default.

Close the "TIBCO Spotfire Update" dialog if still open and click "Update Now" to update the local TIBCO Spotfire Analyst installation with the needed packages. Now the Automation Services packages should be installed locally and the license will be available to be enabled.
