Use this article to help choose the best Agent type of agent for your environment and requirements.
The TIBCO Scribe® Online Agent facilitates communication between your source and target data stores. Determining which Agent type to select varies depending on the TIBCO Scribe® Online Connector being used and the location of the data being accessed, either on-premise or in the cloud.
Agents Supported By The Connectors
When trying to select an Agent, first refer to the documentation for the Connectors you plan to use. All Connectors support the On-Premise Agent, but only some Connectors support the Cloud Agent. If you are configuring a Solution and any of the Connections are for a Connector that only supports the On-Premise Agent, then you must use the On-Premise Agent.
Location Of The Data
If all the Connections and Connectors you plan to use in your Solution support both Agents, you must review the location of each datastore. If any datastore is on a local server or on-premise, you must use the On-Premise Agent. There are a few exceptions to this rule depending on the Connector. For example, the TIBCO Scribe® Online Connector for Microsoft SQL Server supports using the Cloud Agent when the SQL Server database is on a local server. As TIBCO Scribe® Online adds support for the Cloud Agent with On-Premise data to more Connectors, the Connector documentation is updated to note the exception.
Cloud Agent
A general rule for using the Cloud Agent is that both of the following must be true:
- All of the data for a Solution, both source and target, is in the Cloud.
- The Connector you are using supports the Cloud Agent.
Refer to the
TIBCO Scribe® Online documentation for a specific Connector to find any exceptions.
