Description

When trying to open Excel files in the  Spotfire installed or web client, you get the following error message:

Error message: Could not read the selected data.

NullReferenceException at System.Windows.Forms:
Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (HRESULT: 80004003)

Issue/Introduction

When opening an Excel file in Spotfire client, you get the error message "Could not read the selected data". This particular issue has been addressed in hotfixes and later releases.

Resolution

This issue has been addressed from version 10.8, as well as in hotfix HF-011 for 10.3, and hotfix HF-001 for 10.7.

Note: other variants of this general Excel-import issue (also resulting in the same "Error message: Could not read the selected data." but with a different stack trace from the one documented here) have been reported. If you encounter that, please contact Support.
