Description

If a custom device name is provided to one or more log sources and these are being changed to a different name after a reboot or after the daily maintenance cycle executes then this is most likely caused by the appliance retrieving the log source's hostname from DNS then updating the device name with that information. This is normally caused by DNS resolution being enabled in the LMI software.

There are 2 places to disable DNS resolution:

1. If you don't want any device names to be updated then you probably need to disable the global DNS refresh setting on the Administration->System Settings page.

2. If there is only a subset of log sources whose names you want to customize to essentially override DNS then you will need to change the DNS refresh setting on the individual log sources. If the global value is enabled then set it to disabled on the individual log sources. If the global value is disabled then the specific log sources must have their individual DNS refresh setting enabled and it just needs disabled.
