Description
Source-specific multicast (SSM) is a method of delivering multicast packets in which the only packets that are delivered to a receiver are those originating from a specific source address requested by the receiver. By so limiting the source, SSM reduces demands on the network and improves security.
Issue/Introduction
Customer would like to Know if RV support Source-Specific Multicase.
Resolution
Unfortunately, RV does not support Source-Specific Multicase. We currently do not have a plan to support it. Because we do not see much benefit for supporting SSM for RV.
In RV, any publisher can also be receiver, and a lot of users are using RV as a many to many solution.
SSM is designed to be one to many. Since in RV any publisher can also be a receiver and most users are using RV as a many to many solution. We are not sure of the relevance of this.
An enhancement request was propose some time ago about this, and the developers decided not to implement this.
