This article details troubleshooting steps when error message 'Failed to create empty document' appears while using Statistica

Cause: This is a resource issue. It appears when the system is running out of Windows resources, such as Windows Handles or Graphics Objects. It can appear when many documents, such as spreadsheets, are all open or created at once. It can also appear when many programs are running at once. 

Steps to overcome this error message:

1. Check if there is any hanging instances of Statistica which did not shut down and are taking up resources. To do this, use Windows Task Manager, go to Processes Tab and ensure 'Show processes from all users' is selected to look for instances of statist.exe

2. If WebStatistica or MAS is installed, check if these are running. If they are, stop these services and try using Statistica again

3. Try rebooting the computer and starting Statistica from a clean boot
