Description

The following error may be generated when attempting a backup: “Starting Rsync version check failed Sanity check failed Backup failed”.

Note: This software check has been removed from LogLogic LMI starting with version 6.3.0.

Issue/Introduction

This article explains what causes the “Starting Rsync version check failed Sanity check failed Backup failed” in LogLogic LMI.

Resolution

This is caused by LMI performing a check of the rsync version and determining the remote rsync version is not equal to or newer than the rsync on the LMI appliance. The rsync version on the backup server should not be lower/older than the version installed on the LMI appliance. This is not a hard requirement though but rather a recommendation. Generally if the rsync version on the remote backup server is older it won't cause issues but there is no guarantee. It depends on how old it is compared to the LMI rsync package and the specific differences in code between the two versions.

Confirm the rsync version using this command:
$ rsync --version
