When applying a Statistica update with an update installer (sometimes after uninstalling a previous update) and the update installer generates an error that a file is locked by another process and the installer cancels. The installer log is not produced. There are no Statistica, WebStatistica, or other related processes running. How is this resolved?
Cause: A process most likely failed to close properly and has the file locked.
Note: This error is not encountered when applying a hotfix.

Follow these steps:
1. While that error message is displayed, check %temp%\STATMSI_V12AHFS001.log (or similar update log file) and it should show which file is locked (search for Locked File in the log file)
2. Search for and find the the handle or process and stop the process (see How To Delete, Move, or Rename Locked Files in Windows).
