Description

For visualizations including Bar charts, Cross tables, Scatter plots, Waterfall charts, Combination charts and Line charts, the font settings in Properties > Fonts for X-axis (or Category-axis) and Y-axis (or Value-axis) are noted as "printing only" in versions prior to 10.7, and as "printing, only for deprecated export" for 10.7 and later versions. For example:

If you change the font here, the only way to view the changed font is using deprecated export/printing (including 7.9 PDF export, 7.11 Microsoft PowerPoint export and 7.11 Print).

That is to say, this change could not be reflected on the visualizations, or current export/printing features.

Issue/Introduction

This article explains the difference between "printing only" and "printing, only for deprecated export" in the Axis Font settings in visualizations in TIBCO Spotfire.

Resolution

The reason of the behavior is that this font is used in old print and export functionality that used different rendering code path. With the rewritten PDF export in 7.10 and higher this setting is no longer used.

You can do the following to change the axis title fonts for visualizations and export/printing:
  • For versions 10.0 and higher: Change this in custom themes instead. Go to Visualizations > Canvas Styling > Edit Custom Theme > Details > Column selectors, and change the fonts here. Note that this will be applied to all visualizations in the analysis.
  • For versions 7.14 and lower: Go to View > Visual Theme Edit Custom Theme > Details > Column selectors, and change the fonts here. Note that this will be applied to all visualizations in the analysis.
