Description

When TIBCO Statistica is hanging and/or crashing it is important to collect crash dumps and send them to support. This article describes how to do that.

Issue/Introduction

This article demonstrates the collection of crash dumps when TIBCO Statistica processes are hanging or crashing.

Environment

Windows 7 and higher.

Resolution

To start with, please identify what part (process) of TIBCO Statistica is hanging or crashing - does it happen while executing a general workflow (statist.exe), while running a specific task and/or report (sta_sch.exe),  in Webstatistica (webstat.exe) etc. For further guidance on this, please contact support.  Once you have identified the right process, you can proceed with the crash dump collection in the following way:

1. We will use the error message:"SPC Scheduler stopped working", that appears when trying to schedule and run reports in TIBCO Statistica Enterprise Manager, as an example;

2. Go to Windows Start menu and type "regedit" to enter the OS registry settings;

3.  Browse to (or create) the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps.

4. Then create a key under that with the desired name.exe to enable it for that specific TIBCO Statistica Process. In our use case, we will be targeting sta_sch.exe with this path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Windows Error Reporting\LocalDumps\sta_sch.exe. The default options are all fine so there's no need to create any other entries. It should look like this:

Please Note: By default this will save the dmp file(s) in %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps.

5. Reproduce the issue (hanging or crash) and collect the captured files from this location %LOCALAPPDATA%\CrashDumps:

6..Zip the files and send them to TIBCO support (to open a support case, please go to the TIBCO Support Portal - http://support.tibco.com
