How to create a dump file for troubleshooting purposes
Environment
Windows operating systems only.
Resolution
Beginning with Windows Vista, the Windows Task Manager can be used to generate a dump file. The follow steps are found in the Microsoft knowledge base article How to create a user-mode process dump file in Windows Vista and in Windows 7:
To create a dump file in Windows 7:
1. Click Start and type in taskmgr.exe to find the Windows Task Manager. Click taskmgr.exe to open Task Manager. (Or right-click on an empty area of the task bar and then click Start Task Manager).
2. Click on the Process tab
3. Right-click the process named "statist.exe" and then select Create Dump File
4. The dump file is created and the path to where it is saved is displayed:
