Issue/Introduction

How to extrapolate values inside a spreadsheet?

Resolution

A horizontal or vertical series in a block can be extrapolated by:

1. Selecting the block of data from the spreadsheet.

2. Pointing at the Fill Handle (a small solid square located on the lower-right corner of the block).

3. When the mouse pointer changes to a plus sign, drag the block Fill Handle to the last cell(s) of which to extrapolate the data.

The software can create series of values such as sequential numbers, linear extrapolations, and dates (e.g., A series containing 1, 2, 3 using extrapolation to include 4, 5, 6). If the initial selection contains repeated values, these values are duplicated in the spreadsheet. Non-identical values are extended by linear regression to compute the extrapolated values for the series. If the block contains text labels, then the text labels are copied into the spreadsheet cells. If a variable contains dates, then based on the pattern of dates the software extrapolates the dates appropriately.
