Description
In a visualization with traditional axes only, such as scatter plots, line charts, bar charts, etc., you might find empty hierarchy nodes or empty categories. For example, in a data set with Year > Month on the category axis, if there is no data in May 2019 but there is data in May for other years, then you will see May 2019 node present even though there is no data for that month. To hide these empty hierarchy nodes, you can follow the resolution below.
Issue/Introduction
This article explain how to hide empty hierarchy nodes from a categorical axis in a visualization
Resolution
Go to the visualization
Properties >
Category Axis >
Settings > In the
Categories drop-down list, change from
Show filtered range to
Show filtered values >
OK.
Alternatively, you can use a shortcut to do this:
- Right-click the scale labels for the categorical axis.
- Select Categories > Show Filtered Values from the pop-up menu.
Explanation:
- Show Filtered Values - will only display those categories where values are present, and hide all categories without values.
- Show Filtered Range - will only remove empty values from outside of the current range where values are present.
This is applicable to visualizations with traditional axes only, such as scatter plots, line charts, bar charts, etc.
