Spotfire Statistica 13.3.0 and 13.3.1

Description

This article details how data be imported from TIBCO Spotfire into TIBCO Statistica as Statistica spreadsheets and how Statistica spreadsheets can be exported into Spotfire Binary Data Files (.sbdf). Statistica 13.3.0 and later versions have a Spotfire Data Export and Spotfire Data Import node .  An example workspace with these nodes is included with Statistica 13.3.1. To open the workspace  from Statistica, click on Open drop down in Home tab of Statistica and choose Open Examples >> Workspaces  >> Example_SBDF_Import_Export.sdm. 

Note: Starting with 13.4.0:
1. The Import Spotfire node is located under Data|Import Data|Import Spotfire.
2. Exporting to Spotfire SBDF fie function is achieved by Data|Export Data Node.

For the purpose of this article, we will use Characterstics.sta from Statistica examples directory.

This article details how data can be imported into Statistica from a TIBCO Spotfire-Binary-Data-File(.sbdf) and exported from Statistica into TIBCO Spotfire-Binary-Data-File(.sbdf)

Resolution

How to export data from Statistica into Spotfire Binary Data File (.sbdf)

1. Launch Statistica and click on the drop down list below the New in Home tab and select Workspace

2. Accept the default blank workspace in the Create New Document dialog and click on  "OK"

3. In the Select Data Source dialog, click on the Files button and browse to : [Drive]:\Program Files\Statistica\Statistica 13\Examples\Datasets and choose Characteristics.sta. (You may choose to open other files of your choice here)

4.  In the workspace opened, select Node Browser, expand Data>>Spotfire and double click on the Spotfire Data Export Node to add it to the workspace.  (Alternatively, you can type Spotfire in the feature finder on the top right corner of Statistica to bring up these nodes ) After the node is added to the workspace, close the node browser.

5. Click on the gear icon on the top left corner of the node to open parameters of the node.

6.  Enter a file path to save the file and click OK to close the dialog.

7.  Click on the green triangular play on the bottom left side of the node to run the node to completion. The node will turn white when the data has completed exporting to .sbdf file.

 8.  The Spotfire data file that is created can be opened in Spotfire and used for creating visualizations in Spotfire.

How to import Spotfire Binary Data File (.sbdf) into Statistica?


For the purpose of keeping this article simple, we will import the same file we exported in the previous section into Statistica.

1. With the same workspace, type Spotfire in Feature finder (top right corner of Statistica ; same as alternative detailed in Step 4 of previous section ) and select Spotfire Data Import Node.

2.   Click on the gear icon on top of the Spotfire Data Import node and enter the path and name of the Spotfire Data file to be imported. Click OK

   3.   Run the node to import the sbdf file into Statistica. The document can be viewed by clicking on the spreadsheet icon at the bottom right corner of the node. You may add subsequent nodes to perform further analyses in Statistica.
