Description
Consider the following data set, where the date in the "dob" column is in "DD/MM/YYYY" format:
name dob john 25/08/1989 watson 15/09/1990 sherlock 12/11/1985
When the default "Culture" setting is in use, Spotfire considers the format used in this "DOB" column to be a DataType of "String". In the "Import Settings" window, if you change the DataType to "Date" and click the "Refresh" button, you will see the warning "This value could not be parsed as Date", as shown in the screenshot in the first attached file (Filename: "ss1.png").

Resolution
To make Spotfire parse dates in "DD/MM/YYYY" format as Date columns, change the "Culture" dropdown to a value that expects Date columns in this format. For example, Select "es-CO" in the Import Settings, as shown in the screenshot in the second attached file (Filename: "ss2.png").
