There are two ways to manage the plotting of the default initial visualizaiton when loading data into Spotfire.
- Tools > Administration Manager > Preferences > Visualization > VisualizationPreferences
- Spotfire Analyst > Tools > Options > Document > 'Initial visualization when loading data'
The Preference `DefaultInitialVisualization` or 'Initial visualization when loading data' determines whether a visualization should be automatically generated each time a new data table is loaded, and it specifies which visualization should be created.
By default, no visualization is generated on the page. This default setting can be configured at the group level from Tools > Administration Manager > Preferences > Visualization > VisualizationPreferences > DefaultInitialVisualization, ensuring that all users within a group share this preference.
However, if a user configures this setting at the individual user level (i.e: From Tools > Options), the user-level setting takes precedence over the group-level preference. Consequently, the logged-in user's specified setting will take effect when creating a new document from all the clients (web and installed).
If a user intends to retrieve group-level preferences by excluding any user-level setting, the typical assumption is that configuring the user-level setting in Spotfire Analyst > Tools > Options > Document and setting the field 'Initial visualization when loading data' to '(None)' would be effective. However, this approach does not give the expected results.
