For example, plot a simple bar chart for variable "Gender" in a dataset to visualize the frequency/percentage of Female and Male.
1. In Statistica, go to "Home | New | Dashboard" to create a new dashboard
2. The dashboard dialog opens. Click on the "+" sign to select a data source for the analysis, for example, click on "Statistica Spreadsheet" to browse and choose example dataset Adstudy.sta.
3. The spreadsheet is displayed in dashboard. Click on "OK" at the bottom to import the dataset to the dashboard for further graph plotting.
4. On the right panel, draw a rectangle, the graph selection dialog appears. Select a "Vertical bar chart" for illustration.
5. From the variable list on the left panel, select the variable "Gender", Drag all the way to "Columns" in the graph on the right panel, and release the mouse. Make sure a sign of "+" within a small square box show up together with the mouse when you are dragging the variable. "GENDER" appears under "Columns" if the variable dragging is successful.
6. Continue select variable "Gender" from left panel variable list, and drag to "Color" in the graph. Make sure a sign of "+" within a small square box show up together with the mouse when you are dragging the variable. Click on the downward arrow on the left of "Color" to display the drop-down dialog, where "GENDER" is listed if the variable dragging is successful. User can choose the colors to display in the bar chart for categories Female and Male.
7. Continue select other variables in the dataset, for example, "MEASURE01" and drag to "Height" in the graph. Make sure a sign of "+" within a small square box show up together with the mouse when you are dragging the variable. Click on the downward arrow on the left of "Height" to display the drop down dialog, where "MEASURE01" is listed if the variable dragging is successful.
User can edit "Variable Title", i.e. to "Percent" to be displayed as label for the Y-axis in the graph.
User can select "PercentOfTotal" from "Aggregate" drop-down menu, since we want to look at the percentage of Female and Male in the dataset.
User can select the percent format (e.g. 0%) to be displayed on the Y-axis in the graph.
User can select "Dynamic Range" or specify "Fixed Range" for the Y-axis value range in the graph.
8. Once above is done, a simple vertical bar chart is generated to visualize the frequency/percentage of Female and Male for Gender in the dataset. User can edit the graph title as well.
