Description

let's take 2D Line Double-Y plot as example. 

Issue/Introduction

This article shows steps to plot 2D Double-Y graph with secondary Y axis for multiple Y variables displayed differently, e.g. in bars and lines (compound graph).

Environment

Windows 7, Windows Server 2012 R2

Resolution

1. With the data spreadsheet open, go to "Graph | 2D | Line Plots (Variables)...".

2. The 2D Line plot dialog opens. Go to "Advanced" tab, select "Double -Y" as graph type, then click on "Variables" to select variables that align to Y axis on the left of the graph ("Y-left"), and variables that align to Y axis on the right of the graph ("Y-right").

3. Continue in the 2D Line plot dialog, go to "Options 1" tab, under "Display options" section, set "Case Labels" as "Variable", and click on "Variable" to select the variable to be displayed in X-axis of the plot.

4. Click Ok. The graph is plotted as below, where variable "Bar variable" and "Line variable" are aligned to Y-Left axis and "Secondary Axis" is aligned to the Y-Right axis. This information is marked in the graph legend as (L) and (R). The 3 Y variables are all displayed as Lines.

5. To change the variable display from Line to Bar, click on the line for that variable to select the line, right click mouse, from the drop-down menu, select "Bar Options", the "Bar options" dialog appears. Tick option "Display Bars" and set Bar width and area color, click OK. Bar will be displayed for that variable in the graph. User can also select "Parameters" from the right mouse drop-down menu to further edit if to include the line and marker by checking and unchecking the option "Line" and "Marker".

6. After editing, the plot could be a compound graph with secondary Y axis and multiple Y variables displayed differently in Bars and Lines.
