Issue/Introduction
This article details how TIBCO Statistica Extension for TIBCO Spotfire
Resolution
For the purpose of this article, we'll assume that the below workspace in Statistica is to be used as a data function in Spotfire. Note that the workspace should have at least one node with a downstream document. A downstream document in Statistica is a document that can be used consumed by subsequent nodes in the analysis. Save the workspace to local disk or deploy to Statistica Enterprise
1. Login to a Spotfire Analyst or Spotfire Portable client that has access to Spotfire Server with Statistica extension package installed. Choose the deployment area with Statistica packages if necessary
2. Open either a data table or a .dxp file in Spotfire.
3. Click on Tools >>Statistica
4. Enter credentials to login to Statistica Enterprise in the settings tab in Statistica Integration , if necessary.
5. In the Data Functions tab, click on the green + sign to choose the workspace. Make the choice depending on the location where the workspace is saved. This will register the data function.
Clicking on Workspace from local disk will bring up the option to open a workspace file with extension .sdm and clicking on Workspace from Enterprise will allow for selecting a workspace deployed to Enterprise.Select the workspace and click OK.
6. Change the name and Description of the Function if needed. Note that the name needs to be unique across all Spotfire Data functions defined in the Spotfire Server. Choose the Embed/ cache flag depending on if the workpace needs to be embedded or cached.
Embed flag: If this flag is enabled, that Statistica Data function will be part of Spotfire file (.dxp). Once you embed it,there is no need for original workspace to be present anymore. If you remove or rename the workspace in Statistica, the statistica data function will still return results because the workspace is embedded. Cache flag: If the flag is enabled, the results of Statistica Data function will be cached and the subsequent calls with same input will return the cached outputs.
7. Click on the orange gear icon to edit parameters of the Statistica Data Function.
8. Review the Input and Output and set the appropriate return type. Inputs only need to be optionally changed or mapped if the input to Statistica workspace needs to differ. If this is defined as None, Statistica will use the data source of the workspace. For each output, select the appropriate output handler. In this example, all outputs are Data Tables.
9. Click on OK. The data function runs on close and can be run on demand by right clicking and choosing run.
The workspace runs in the background and resulting table will be available as a data table for Spotfire consumption
