Microsoft Dynamics NAV is more complex to configure and maintain, and requires a different skill set than Microsoft Dynamics CRM. Some TIBCO Scribe® Insight users have approached their Dynamics NAV integration with the expectation that the experience would resemble their experiences in integrating to Dynamics CRM, and it has not.
The following considerations may help you when embarking on a new TIBCO Scribe® Insight integration project that includes Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
1) Consider your experience level with Microsoft Dynamics NAV:
A working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics NAV key components is necessary for a smooth implementation. Best practice is to have a certified Microsoft Dynamics NAV reseller available to you and your project team. If you do not have one, please contact Sales, Contact Us, for names of some Microsoft Dynamics NAV partners.
2) Understand Microsoft Dynamics NAV licensing:
Certain elements must be present in your Microsoft Dynamics NAV license to implement the TIBCO Scribe® Insight Microsoft Dynamics NAV Adapter:
- Access to CFront
- At least one seat available for use by the TIBCO Scribe® Insight Adapter and one for use per instance of Microsoft Dynamics NAV NAS
- Microsoft Dynamics NAV client license contains the Scribe Granules, which permit access to TIBCO Scribe® Insight components. If your site needs to upgrade the Microsoft Dynamics NAV client license to support the Scribe NAV Granule, contact your regional Microsoft AOC and request that the Microsoft Dynamics NAV client license be upgraded to include granule ID: 14094210 titled "Scribe NAV Adapter."
- Access and ability to edit Dynamics NAV code units.
For general questions concerning licensing for Microsoft Dynamics NAV or to acquire an updated license for your client that includes the above, contact either the Microsoft European or America Operating Centers. For information relating to TIBCO Scribe® Insight please

3) Be comfortable editing Microsoft Dynamics code units:
As part of the setup for the TIBCO Scribe® Insight Adapter, you must import two fobs (Financials Object file) to create Scribe-specific tables and the code units required by the TIBCO Scribe® Insight Adapter. You also need to modify NAV code unit 1, Application Management, possibly code unit 80, Sales-Post, and code unit 414, Release Sales Document. You must perform these modifications by editing c/al code in Microsoft Dynamics NAV. As noted above, you must have access to a license that permits modification of code units. These code units are key components to the functionality of NAV and may already have been modified to support other customizations and add-ons. It is imperative that someone familiar with editing code units, as well as any existing customizations to these code units, be part of this process.
4) Installation and configuration of the Microsoft Dynamics NAV NAS application:
The NAV Application Server (NAS) provides the business logic layer that TIBCO Scribe® Insight uses to integrate into Microsoft Dynamics NAV. It is a separate install from Microsoft Dynamics NAV and must be configured with certain TIBCO Scribe® Insight parameters. If your organization is large you may have multiple instances of the NAS for each for company and/or third party component. An understanding of this service is necessary for a successful implementation of the TIBCO Scribe® Insight Adapter.
5) Know what data you plan to integrate:
While the process to add objects is similar to the Dynamics CRM adapter in that you select the objects you wish to publish via the NAV Publisher, other setup steps, such as field level validation, require familiarity with the Microsoft Dynamics NAV code and the NAV system to which you are integrating.
6) Review the following documents:
