Description
The TDV datasource adapters for MS Access and MS Excel are normally ready to use, by default.
However, if your install contain a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) version 1.8, you will see that any attempts to create a new datasource will popup an error containing this message: "The proper JDBC adapter must be installed to access this type of datasource"
Any attempt to use an existing datasource that was created before, will throw an error similar to this: "Unable to load JDBC driver class "Microsoft <adapter name>". [datasrc-2962041] Cause: sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver [Log ID: a448d114-e7f0-430f-b87a-a3da8b11a330]"
Your install could be using JRE v1.8 for these 2 reasons:
1) You manually upgraded your JRE in-place from v1.7 to v1.8 for various reasons including a recommendation from Tibco support, due to a prior support case. 2) You are using TDV v7.0.7.00.00 or newer, which began shipping JRE v1.8 as part of the TDV upgrade.
NOTE: our "(non-ODBC)" variants of our Microsoft Access & Excel adapters are NOT affected by this issue.
Issue/Introduction
This discusses a known issue with these 2 adapters.
Resolution
This issue is caused by the internal JDBC-ODBC bridge's inability to run together with JRE v1.8.
At the time of writing, we do not expect this to be an issue in the future TDV v8.0 (estimated release date, Oct 2018) because the Access and Excel adapters will be replaced by a newly designed adapter that doesn't utilize the JDBC-ODBC bridge.
The solution for existing v7.0.x installs is tbd at this moment. Please contact Tibco support and refer to issue# CIS-71360 for any updates.
