Description

The data source templates define the JDBC connection settings used for data sources created in the Information Designer. After making modifications to a data source template in the Spotfire Server Configuration Tool you may notice that the new settings are not reflected in your existing data sources.

Issue/Introduction

Modifications to a Spotfire Information Services data source template not reflected in existing data sources.

Resolution

The data source templates are only referenced when the data source is either created or saved via the Information Designer. Therefore if you make a change to the data source template, all previously existing data sources will continue to use the previous version of the data source template and its settings. To update your data source to use the new data source template settings, you must open that data source object in the Information Designer and re-save the data source. Please note that the data source will not have save enabled unless you modify a setting, so to enable the Save button you can change a value like the max number of connections for example and then set it back to its original value to enable the Save button.

This means technically you can have a single data source template but have different data sources using different versions of the single data source template at the same time. But if you require data sources to use different settings, then it is recommended to instead create separate data source templates for your different configuration settings.
